One with nature

Udawalawe National Park, situated on the borders of the Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces, was established in 1972. The park covers a land area of 30,821 hectares and was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe reservoir on the Walawe River, as well as to protect the catchment of the reservoir.

The park is home to leopards, sambar deer, wild buffalo, endemic and migrant water birds, and most importantly to herds of elephants. The park, covered mostly in marshes and grass lands, makes it the ideal location for wildlife observation.
